For the academic session 2021-22, CUCET will not be held, UGC announced.
CUCET 2021: The Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) will not be implemented from the academic year 2021-22 owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the University Grants Commission announced. The Ministry of Education had earlier announced that the Undergraduate admission to the central Universities will be based on a common entrance test; CUCET. However, with the coronavirus pandemic condition prevailing in the country, the decision has been taken to not implement CUCET 2021.
Earlier, a seven-member committee of UGC had recommended an aptitude test namely Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET), wherein its scores will be used to offer admissions to the participating colleges. The Union Education Ministry had also constituted a committee to look into modalities for the CUCET for admissions to all undergraduate courses at central universities as suggested under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
"In view of prevailing COVID-19 pandemic, admission process in central universities during academic session 2021-22 may continue as per past practice. Central Universities Common Entrance Test (CUCET) may be implemented from academic session 2022-23," the UGC tweeted.
While speaking to Shiksha.com, Rajeev Gupta, Chairperson of DUβs admissions said that this year the DU Admissions 2021 will not be based on CUCET score and will be conducted on the basis of merit like previous years.
