IGNOU BA in Home Science programme will commence from the July 2025 session for candidates seeking a comprehensive understanding of Human Development and family studies, extension and communication and fabric and apparel sciences.
Indira Gandhi National Open University has introduced a new programme under the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) system. The School of Continuing Education (SOCE) has launched a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree programme in Home Science for all interested and eligible candidates. The authorities will commence the programme in the Open and Distance Learning System from the July 2025 session.
The BA in Home Science programme is designed in accordance with the curriculum and credit framework of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The programme further adheres to the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines to meet the growing demand for discipline within the home science/ community science. The course fee is INR 5000 per year (registration fee and development fee as applicable)
The IGNOU BA in Home Science programme aims to empower students with an understanding of community resource management, extension and communication, fabric and apparel science, human development and family studies.
IGNOU BA Home Science Course Eligibility Criteria
Students who have qualified class 12 or equivalent will be eligible to appear for the IGNOU BA Home Science programme. The programme will be available in English and Hindi, and the duration of the programme is three years. The maximum duration of the programme completion is six years. The programme would offer 120 credits to earn the full degree.
The programme offers a multidisciplinary approach and a flexible learning approach through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, preparing students for diverse careers and community engagement.

Students who have applied for B.Ed, MBA or PB BSc Nursing must appear for the required entrance and check if they've qualified it. Followed by application, application fee payment and entrance, students who have completed their registration can check their status by entering their registration number on the IGNOU admission status page. The university also notifies students about their admission confirmation or rejection through an email and a text message in the next two months.
