
The IGNOU MSc in Home Science programme will be of a years duration. The programme will be offered through open and distance learning mode for graduates who are willing to work in NGOs, CSR, rural development and health sectors.
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched the MSc in Home Science programme from the academic session 2025. The MSc in Home Science at IGNOU aims to focus on community development and extension. The programme duration will be two years and the curriculum will equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge to work in areas like healthcare, education, social welfare and rural development.
The programme will be taught under the School of Continuing Education and will be available in English through the Open Distance Learning (ODL) mode. Students who have completed their graduation in Home Science along with any other stream, including Social Sciences, Behavioural Sciences and other disciplines and wish to work at the community level will be catered to through this programme.
The students will be provided with the academic knowledge for subjects linked to community organisations, maternal and child health, gender, field research and community organisations. During the two-year duration, students will be provided with the academic knowledge as well as practical exposure, as reported by India Today.
IGNOU MSc in Home Science: Programme Fee
Interested and eligible candidates may apply online through the IGNOU Samarth Portal, i.e. ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. The IGNOU MSc in Home Science course fee is INR 7,000 annually, comprising registration and development charges for the programme. The students have to achieve 80 credits to graduate from the programme.
