CTET 2021 and UPTET 2021 notifications may release soon. Candidates are eagerly waiting for the release of official notifications to appear for the CTET and UPTET exams and obtain the eligibility certificate for teaching jobs. There may be speculations among the candidates preparing for both CTET and UPTET regarding the exam pattern and structure of both examinations. Candidates may be confused about whether the CTET and UPTET exam patterns are the same or different. Knowing the exam pattern is the first and foremost step towards exam preparation.

Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET)
The CTET exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Candidates who want to obtain eligibility as classes 1 to 8 teachers in central schools such as KVS, NVS and others need to appear for the CTET exam to get the eligibility certificate. The CTET exam is conducted for Paper 1 and Paper 2. The CTET Paper 1 is for classes 1 to 5 teachers and Paper 2 is for classes 5 to 8 teachers. Candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 8 need to give both papers. Those who qualify the exam are awarded the CTET certificate. Candidates can appear for the teacher recruitment processes through the CTET certificate, which is valid for lifetime now.
Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET)
Uttar Pradesh government conducts the UPTET exam to determine the eligibility of candidates for classes 1 to 8 teacher in Uttar Pradesh schools. The UPTET exam is conducted on the lines of the CTET exam itself. The exam comprises Paper 1 and Paper 2. The UPTET Paper 1 is for candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 5 and Paper 2 is for those who want to teach classes 5 to 8. Candidates who qualify the exam are awarded the UPTET certificate through which they can appear for the teacher recruitment processes in the state. Likewise CTET, the UPTET exam is also valid for lifetime now.

Similarities between CTET & UPTET
The CTET and UPTET exams share several similarities. Have a look:
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria of CTET and UPTET exams are almost the same for both papers. For Paper 1, candidates must have passed class 12 examination with minimum 50 per cent marks and have completed or appeared in two-year Diploma in Elementary Education or four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education programme. For Paper 2, candidates must have completed graduation with at least 50 per cent marks along with two-year D.EL.ED or one-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) programme.

Exam Pattern: As mentioned above, the exam pattern for both CTET and UPTET examinations is the same. Both the exams are conducted for Paper 1 and Paper 2 and both papers comprise 150 MCQs each. Each question carries 1 mark. So far, both the exams have been conducted offline in pen and paper mode. However, this year, it is likely that the UPTET exams might be conducted online amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Subjects or Syllabus: The CTET subjects or syllabus is almost similar to that of the UPTET exam. The Paper 1 of CTET and UPTET exams contain questions from five subjects- Child Development and Pedagogy, Language 1, Language 2, Mathematics and Environmental Science and the Paper 2 comprises four subjects- Child Development and Pedagogy, Language 1, Language 2 and Mathematics and Science or Social Studies.
