Just after the IAS prelims exam last year, a group of candidates filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Supreme Court of India that the Corona warriors and patients should be given an extra attempt in the Civil Service Exam 2021. The Supreme Court considered their plea and directed the UPSC to search for such considerations in the IAS exam 2021. UPSC in its written reply that an extra attempt can be considered but for this, it requires the permission of the Ministry of Personnel.
Supreme Court asked the Government of India to submit its reply before the court to further the proceedings of the case. The Union Government needs to submit its decision before the court. Giving an extra attempt in the IAS exam 2021 will address the grievances of all such candidates who were working as the corona warriors and suffering from COVID-19 and could not prepare for the IAS exam.

The decision regarding an extra attempt in the UPSC IAS 2021 exam is still pending with the Government of India. Maybe because of this, the UPSC notification may be delayed by one week. The other way around is that the UPSC can issue the notification on time and add the eligibility condition later and provide extra time for the application filling process.
