Your career after Distance B.Sc programme
Bachelor of Science programmes offered through distance learning have to be recognised by the Distance Education Council (DEC). Like regular programmes, distance B.Sc programmes also have duration of three years and can be extended up to six years.
Whether you opt for a distance B.Sc programme in Agriculture & Forestry, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, or Physics, be careful with universities claiming to let you graduate in just one year. One sitting or single sitting degree programmes have already been discontinued by the UGC and are not valid anymore. The alternatives to a single sitting degree exam include evening learning programmes, weekend programmes, online education and correspondence or distance learning courses.
Distance learning courses are an ideal way to provide better access to education to people of all ages, providing them an alternative to regular full-time studies. Distance B.Sc programmes are ideal for working professionals who would like to learn at their own pace. Besides increasing professional competence of students, such programmes are more flexible and generally, quite affordable too.
Eligibility
All the eight open universities in India accept students in undergraduate science degree programmes, on the basis of their performance in Class 12th boards with related subjects.
Career Prospects
Students who are enrolled in distance B.Sc programmes study the same syllabi as regular students and hence, have access to similar career opportunities. They are also eligible to apply for postgraduate programmes in related fields.
Some institutes also have distance learning centers, where students of distance B.Sc programmes can attend weekend classes or Personal Contact programmes for academic guidance, lab work, and industry interaction. These centers also offer library and other infrastructural facilities for students.
