The minimum eligibility for non-commerce graduates with subjects other than Mathematics with an aggregate of 55% marks and non-commerce graduates with Maths with an aggregate of 60% marks are exempted from the Competency Professional Test and are permitted to register for Professional Competency Course. CA. (Chartered Accountant) is a professional who has the highest level of knowledge in accounting, auditing and taxation. Any one going for this career must be ready for extreme hard work and hours of study. It is not about the degree you hold but is all about the knowledge that is required for CA. I would never suggest anyone to take up this course unless he/she knows what exactly it demands, though there is no such hard core rule regarding academic background. Candidate needs to appear for a Common Preparation Test (CPT) and if qualifies, can pursue the course. Well, the one from a commerce background has obviously greater chance of success than the one from other stream.
