Dear student,
It is good, you are thinking to pursue PhD. If you have 55% marks in P.G. or more, you can go through this. In most of the universities, PhD in commerce is not available. So, you can opt economics as subject in these universities. There are some topics which are related, such as money, capital, aids to trade, economic conditions, banking, taxation, financial management , present economic status of the country, compare economy of the developing and develop countries.
What is the business trend in countries such as China, Japan America, etc.?
Besides this, you can choose subject in service sector. For example, compare the service sector of India and Britain. With small scale industry startups in India, growing challenges and growth of Indian market, Inflation etc. may be good topics for research.

In commerce, there are lots of option you can do research on BBA , B.COM HONS , ECONOMICS HONS, ACTUARIAL SCIENCE, , CA , CS B.COM- FINANCE & INVESTMENT ANALYSIS . 10+2 Commerce students planning for further studies can take up careers in professional fields such as Company Secretary , Chartered accountancy (CA), Actuarial Science, ICAI and so on. CA is considered as one of the toughest examination and while doing CA, students should be aware of the fact that every year only a marginal percentage of candidates qualify for these examinations. It is better to pursue professional programs along with graduation or after graduation so as to fetch lucrative job opportunities. Therefore, a lot of students choose to do B.Com with a specialization in computers before going for CA degree.
Others can take up bachelor's degree in commerce (B.Com), followed by M.Com, PhD and M.Phil. There are wide range of career opportunities for B.Com graduates. Financial & Investment services, banking, marketing, insurance, stock broking, business process outsourcing etc. offers employment opportunities to these graduates. Accounts Officer, Budget Analyst, Finance Officer, Bank Officer and Accounts Executive are some of the job profiles available for B.Com graduates. Those interested in teaching field can go for B.Ed. But one should go for B.Ed in Commerce only after their post graduation in Commerce i.e. M.com. Other career avenues for commerce students are MBA, Computer studies and Banking.
