Hi,It is totally depends upon your keen interest in the field and you have to first introspect yourself and you have to decide to go for which course. Now come to the point that which course you should go for in my opinion you can go for the mechanical B.Tech from SRM because MNC's and many other top organization do visit for the campus and placements for the students and its ranking is among top 20 institutes (private) in India, if you have interest in mechanical branch, you can definitely go for it. Now, for B.Tech aeronautical engineering, if you have interest in it, you can go for it from MIT Manipal or SRM Chennai too provide education in aeronautical engineering, you can again choose SRM for it. Or, if you want to go for MIT Manipal, it is also a good ranked a good educational institutes you can decide now in which field and institute you want to join. Cheers.

Fee: At SRM, you have to pay a lot less than what you have to pay at Manipal University, even though SRM being the better of the two. Hope you make the right choice cheers.

Minimum Eligibility Criteria for UG Courses:
Only Indian citizens are eligible to take admission in UG courses offered at IIST. Candidates meet IIST admission eligibility criteria, if they have secured minimum 75% aggregate marks in their Class 12th Board exams or equivalent examination. Age Limit: General and OBC category candidates who are born on or after October 1, 1992 are eligible for admission whereas SC/ST/PwD category candidates meet IIST eligibility criteria if they are born on or after October 1, 1987. Candidates are offered admission in B.Tech programmes offered at IIST on the basis of their performance in JEE Main and JEE Advanced examinations.

Let me first explain the dynamics of lateral admission. These admissions are given basically against the seats which are lying vacant when the students pass out from 1st year and go to the second year. In addition to this some super numery seats are also allotted for lateral admission. Generally speaking, IITs do not allow lateral admission but have declared Diploma equivalent of class 12th and hence Diploma holders can compete along with the class 12th passed students for admission to IITs by following normal procedure. Different states have different procedures for lateral admission. Some states give lateral admissions based on the marks of Diploma, on the other hand, some states conduct an entrance exam exclusively for giving lateral admissions. You will find all these details on the web page of the Directorate of Technical Education of your state. Yes, the Diploma holders of mechanical engineering branch are eligible to seek admission for aeronautical engineering in lateral mode.
