The eligibility criteria for B.Tech Aerospace Engineering at IIST is given below:
(A) Eligibility criteria : Minimum Marks Requirement in Qualifying Examination: Candidates must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the Class XII (or equivalent see below for list of Qualifying Examinations) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PD candidates should be at least 65%. The marks scored in the following five subjects will be considered for calculating the aggregate marks:1. Physics2. If u are going for engineering then percentage of your class 12th matters not of class 10th. It differs from college to college but in sum college they even take aggregate of marks obtained in pcm only.

Yes, your son may get a good college for aerospace engineering for current batch. As your son's GAT marks are good enough to get him admission. He can get a good college.

Hello Venkatesh,
After completing Diploma, one can get lateral admission in the 2nd year of engineering or use Diploma as equivalent to class 12th and get admission in the 1st year. Now, if the Diploma is in mechanical, then for lateral entry there will be restriction as to which branch you can get admitted. However, if you are using Diploma as equivalent to class 12th, then you can get admission in any branch of engineering.

I think you are not eligible because you are beyond the acceptable window for passing of 12th. What made you wait for almost 4 years? Now, you can attempt Engineering via AMIE.
