The admissions at National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Guwahati are entrance based. Online counseling will be used for admission to the M.S. (Pharm), M.S, M.Pharm, M.B.A. (Pharm), M.Tech. (Pharm), and M.Tech. programmes. Counseling would be provided to candidates according to their performance on the common entrance exam. For MS/M.Tech Medical Devices courses, a different exam will be held, and a candidate's counselling will be determined by their performance in that exam.

The University has not released the BCA placement data. At the UG level, the BTech placement details are out. During 2022 placements, 50 out of 140 BTech students were placed. Earlier, 20 out of 208 students were placed in the 2021 drive. The median package offered from 2020 to 2022 indicates an improving trend.
