Most institutes offering the course admit students based on their performance in the HSC (10+2) exam. The candidate needs to have:
completed the 10+2 level of education from a recognized educational Board.
secured a minimum aggregate score of 50% at the 10+2 level.
Have reasonably good problem-solving and mathematical skills.

The basic criterion of eligibility needed to be met for admission to the course is a Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent qualification from a recognised educational Board, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as main subjects and a minimum aggregate score of 50%.
B.Sc. in Genetics: Admission Process
Admission to the course is based on the candidates performance at the 10+2 level. A few institutes however, shortlist students based on their performance in an additional entrance test conducted at their own level.

To become a Journalist, You should pursue BA in Journalism or Mass Communication (BJMC/ BMM) . Pursuing B.Sc in Mass Communication will also make you a well qualified professional as B.Sc gives you a leverage to work in a research and education institute. You can even become a teacher at a Mass Communication college with B.Sc degree.
If you want to pursue the course within Kanpur city itself, then yes JIMMS is a good option. Else, there are other great colleges across India that offer mass communication at UG level https://www.shiksha.com/mass-communication-media/articles/top-10-mass-communication-colleges-in-india-blogId-1

Yes, you can do BCA after B.Sc but you can't do two Bachelor courses at the same time from IGNOU.
