Students who are interested in the field of Engineering, Technology and Biology will find this Branch attractive and suitable. It is because of the fact that this Engineering branch is a combination of both Engineering as well as Biology subjects.
Biotechnology is a rapidly developing field. Many private businesses are exploring this field and heavily investing in it. It is safe to say that there are ample job opportunities for B.E./B.Tech. Biotechnology Graduates in private sector. Government sector too offers job opportunities, but not in the scale in which private sector does. Average starting salary is generally between 2.4 to 5 Lakh Rupees per year.
Some prominent industries where Biotechnology professionals may find jobs are- Pharmaceuticals Industry, Healthcare sector, Chemical Industry, Agriculture sector, Food Processing and Technology as well as Research sector. Graduates may also take up teaching job (as lecturer) after completing M.E./M.Tech. program.

After a BTech degree, students can find jobs in pharmaceutical companies, research labs and institutions in India. However, most Indian students tend to go abroad to pursue their masters or doctorate studies in Biotechnology and allied fields. Some students also shift to MBA and enter the world of business, finance and banking as their engineering background gives them the required quantitative skills to excel in these sectors. Also, many students shift to software through on-campus placements. Talking about on-campus placements, since the number of job openings is very less in Biotechnology, the number of companies coming for placements will be very less. Also, core companies only hire students from universities such as IITs, NITs etc. If your university is not reputed nationally or state wise, chances of any biotech or pharmaceutical company coming for placements sessions will be close to nil.

Especially for B.Tech Biotechnology, you need to have the following skills to get a job offer:
1) You should have a good exposure to lab equipment and handling should be known with sound theoretical knowledge.
2) Should be able to apply for DBT (Department of Biotech, India) fellowship program in your fourth year starting itself. You will get a good exposure to handle all types of equipment under that fellowship. Where you will be sent to different biotech companies to get ready for a hands-on experience in labs.
3) Hands on experience of the following types of equipment is essential like HPLC, Gas chromatography, Fermentor (small scale), etc.
4) Should have the knowledge of GMP & GLP activities as per ISO standard.
My request is that you choose a good company in DBT training.
