Clinical Psychologists can practice independently following RCI registration. They have the training and expertise to posit and treat mental health disorders with psychotherapy and other non-pharmacologic treatments.
Yet, Clinical Psychologists on a frequent basis, especially in hospitals, work with psychiatrists in collaborations where the Clinical Psychologist will provide psychotherapy and the psychiatrist will administer pharmacologic treatments, as appropriate. As a result, the Clinical Psychologist provides mental health treatment in a holistic care framework.

A Clinical Psychologist is trained to do therapy and assess mental health. They can use psychological methods like CBT, counselling, and behavioural therapy to treat emotional and psychological disorders - they cannot prescribe medicines.
A Psychiatrist is a medical practitioner (MBBS + MD Psychiatry) with the ability to prescribe psychiatric medication, and to treat severe mental illness such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or psychosis, using a medical treatment approach.
