A Master degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics will be valuable in obtaining profound knowledge and development of the career to become a data scientist. Alternative routes to faster access would be professional certificates (reputable certificate programs, such as IBM, Google, Coursera) or specialised bootcamps, which focus on a specific set of more practical skills. Whichever course you take, good background abilities are very important in Python / R, SQL, statistics, machine learning and data interpretation/visualization.
