It's totally depends upon you, but please make sure that whether you choose engineering or medical, you must not regret about the choice you made, so I advice you to choose according to your interest. Neither engineering is bad nor medical so don't think that if you become an engineer you are superior than medical graduates and vice versa. Both of them have there own importantance to the society. Be wise and yes you may discuss with your parents/mentors, if and only if you feel comfortable to do so.
