Diploma in Chemical Engineering is a three-year long programme. This course teaches the students about chemicals and raw materials and ways of creating new materials out of existing chemicals. Admissions to Diploma in Chemical Engineering Colleges are done on Merit basis and the students need to clear the 10th standard with 45% in Math & Science. Chemical Engineering is one of the well known disciplines of engineering that essentially deals with the conversion of raw materials into value added product using optimal resources. Accordingly, the prime role of Chemical Engineer is to design and develop new processes and/or modify existing processes to obtain valuable products for the betterment of society. In India, B.Tech. /B.E. Chemical Engineering programme is of four year duration, comprising of eight semesters. The programme curriculum primarily includes basic Science courses, engineering Science courses, humanities and social sciences, professional core courses, and professional elective courses. Basic and engineering Science courses include Physics Chemistry mathematics, Biology engineering graphics and mechanics, etc. Professional core courses essentially covers the courses like Thermodynamics transport courses (momentum, heat, and mass transfer), chemical reaction engineering, computer aided design of chemical process equipment, automation and process dynamics, etc. The courses on the advanced areas like biotechnology, nano-technology, membrane separation, advanced oxidation processes, etc. Are offered as professional electives. Besides the courses like communication skill, professional ethics, professional skill development, project economics, industrial management and practices, etc. Are also taught under broad heading of humanities and social sciences.
