The intake marks for admission into Tagore Engineering College differs from branch to branch and category in the TNEA Counseling. Typically the cutoff is 120-160 out of 200 for students in the open category for some of the most sought after B.E./B.Tech courses. For a few years being an SC/ST and OBC candidate provides a relatively lower cutoff of about 90–130. These cutoffs vary depending on the number of seats available, the courses sought after most and students' performance in the year in question.

The process of TNEA registration mostly starts in May every year and the applications runs for about a month. The merit list is displayed in June while counseling is done in July and August. Because TNEA relies on Class 12 scores, there is no examination involved in the admission process. Certain days may change every year so applicants should refer to the official TNEA web page frequently in order to have the right information on when to submit their applications and participate in admission.
