Engineering admission in Tamil Nadu is based on cutoff mark calculated for mathematics, physics and chemistry using this formula (maths +physics/2 + chemistry / 2 i.e. M 100+P 100/2 + C 100/2 = 200 max cutoff ). In TNEA Counseling, Chennai Institute of Technology previous year's average cutoff for general Category was 185 ( approximately above 90% in MPC) for BC Category 175 ( above 85% in MPC ) for other categories less 10 cutoff from previous category.
