To apply for the MSc at NIT Nagaland, candidates first must qualify for the eligibility criteria: B.Sc. (Hons. in Physics) with 60% aggregate for general and OBC candidates and 55% or 6.0 CGPA in 10 scale grading for SC and ST. Candidates qualifying the eligibility are now eligible to appear for the Institutional Entrance Examination conducted in the NIT Nagaland campus. The seats offered via the entrance exam are seats which are left after the CCMN counselling. Candidates can apply vis the CCMN cunselling by visiting the counsellin's official website.

NIT Nagaland offers MTech as a postgraduate programme for a two-year duration in a regular and part time mode. The MTech programme is offered under multiple specialisations : Communication Engineering. Communication Engineering Syllabus. VLSI Systems Curriculum. Admission to these specialisations is offered based on the GATE score and CCMN/CCMT counselling.

Candidates who have completed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Also, have a valid GATE Score and a decent work experience is eligible for M.Tech at NIT Nagaland. The GATE Cutoff for each NIT will vary and each NIT will release its GATE cutoff based on the following factors. Candidates will be able to see the cutoff for all NITs on the official website of CCMT (Centralised Counselling for MTech).

Candidates who have twelve years of school education with 75% aggregate. Additionally, candidates must have valid JEE Main scores for admission. Therfore thy must apply for JEE Main exam and stay updated related to the exam for admission. Candidates must have a good JEE Main score i.e. 250 or above. For NITs and IITs a in the 85th to 95th percentile is ideal for admission . Applicants must also rank among the top 15,000 to 20,000 students in the country to get admission to the premier NITs and IITs.

NIT Nagaland offers BTech, M.Tech MSc and PhD programme. Candidates who have twelve years of school education with 75% aggregate and a valid JEE Main scores are eligible for the BTech course. For the MTech, candidates who have a Bachelor's Degree in any stream and a valid scorein the GATE score. Also candidates with a bachelor's degree in Science and IIT Jam score are eligible for the MSc programe. And finally for the PhD candidates must have master's degree in Engineering or Technology, a valid GATE/JRF/ UGC NET/ CSIR NET score.

During the 2022 placement, the highest and average packages were INR 45 LPA and INR 8.09 LPA respectively. Prominent international companies like Deloitte, Cognizant, Capgemini, Infosys etc. participated in NIT Nagaland Placement 2022. While median package at Nagaland University is 3.5 LPA.

The fee for B.Tech courses at Nagaland University - Dimapur Campus is approximately INR 16,570 for the first semester and hostel fee is around 5000 INR. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland charges INR 1.65 Lakhs for M.Tech and INR 41,300 for M.Sc.

The University has released the overall placement data for PG (2-year) courses. As per the NIRF report 2023, 106 PG (2-year) students were placed in 2022 drive, out of 788 graduates. The median package offered was INR 5 LPA. From 2020 to 2022, an improving trend was observed in the PG (2-year) median package. The University has disclosed the median package for UG and PG courses. Looking at the past three years' data (2020 to 2022), an improving trend was recorded in the median package of PG (2-year) courses, whereas, the median package for UG (4-year) courses has dropped from 2020 to 2022.
