IKGPTU admission to the courses is merit and entrance-based. I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University also has a Distance Education Department that offers the same course as the main campus. The highest package being offered so far was of Rs. 10.00 LPA. IKGPTU Amritsar Campus has achieved a signified result by getting good number of placement record in graduation courses of B.Tech and BCA till date.

The placement drive for 2023 is still on going. The complete placement report is yet to be released. However, the University has released the list of recruiters who participated during IKGPTU placements 2023 such as TCS, HDFC Bank, Decathlon, Infosys, etc.

The University has also released the 2023 NIRF report. As per the report, 55 BTech, 9 MTech, and 2 MBA students were placed during IK Gujral Punjab Technical University placements 2022. The median package for BTech stood at INR 4.50 LPA. For M.Tech and MBA courses, the median package stood at INR 3 LPA and INR 2.70 LPA, respectively.
