Thapar is at least 30 years older than SRM. In comparison to SRM, Thapar has a lower batch strength. Thapar selects students based on their JEE Main rank, resulting in a superior peer group. Thapar has a stronger placing track record.

The CSE branch of engineering is lately in high demand due to technology embracing world. During IIT Mandi placements 2023, the highest package offered was INR 60 LPA whereas the highest package offered during IIT Ropar placements was INR 50 LPA. Moreover, the average package offered during IIT Mandi placements 2023 was INR 25.23 LPA whereas the average package offered at IIT Ropar was INR 18.80 LPA. Both the colleges has same eligibility criteria and accepts same entrance exam. So, based on the facts mentioned above, IIT Mandi's the highest package and average package was better this year.

Hostel fees for Engineering Hostels (I. e. Band Singh Bahadur, Mai Bhago Hostel & Bebe Nanki) is INR 920 per month whereas for other Hostels it is INR 420 per month. There are six residential Hostels for boys and seven residential Hostels for girls. The Hostels have all modern amenities for comfortable living for 4000 students.
