The novel COVID-19 virus creates respiratory illness such as viral pneumonia, resulting in high fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The study published in the journal Radiology found that chest X-ray feature can help in early detection and diagnosis of the virus. LPU researchers develop cloud-based tech that can detect COVID-19, Researchers have developed an easy-to-use AI-powered interface that claims to detect COVID-19. The cloud-based web interface scans radiology reports such as CT scan or X-Rays. The AI system can enable doctors and medical staff in even remotest villages of the country to get quick results. The technology developed by researchers from Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab can study CT Scans and X-Rays as part of the global efforts to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic. The cloud-based web interface is connected to an AI model at a centralised server which processes the image received from the web portal and sends the results. Researchers note that no extra technical skills are required to use this portal. The AI model was trained and tested over 13,000 chest radiography images. The portal is capable of hosting any AI model that is preferred by a hospital. It can detect the infection as well as the extent to which it has affected the patient. The LPU team has taken guidance from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). .
