All international students will have to showcase their English language skills by submitting IELTS/TOEFL/PTE or alternative qualifications at UBirmingham. International students who hold a conditional offer where English is required Professional English courses offered by uni are also accepted as an alternative way to enter.

First step to secure admission at UBirmingham is choosing a course. Research well about the course and university or funding opportunities. Rankings questions always sound straightforward, but I learned the hard way that they're easy to misread if you don't look at context. When I was researching UK universities a few years ago, I kept seeing UEL move up and down across different league tables and it felt confusing at first.
The issue is that rankings don't a single thing. Some years UEL does better on employability, student diversity, or industry links, while it may slip on research output or citations, which affects global rankings more. Once I stopped treating rankings as a fixed “score” and started looking at why they changed, the picture made more sense.

I've seen this kind of Imperial vs Oxford question come up a lot, and I think the confusion is understandable. On paper, both look exceptional, so it's tempting to search for a single “better” answer. In reality, that framing usually causes more stress than clarity.
What helped me when comparing top-tier options (in my case, different programs rather than universities) was stepping away from reputation alone and focusing on lived outcomes. Things like teaching style, supervisor access, assessment culture, workload rhythm, and even how supported students feel day to day don't show up clearly in rankings. Two institutions can be equal
