As required by the Medical Council of India, direct admission to Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences' MBBS programme is not possible without qualifying NEET-UG. The official NEET + MCC counselling process is used to assign seats. NEET qualification is still required even for these medications, even though KIIT reserves limited management and NRI quota seats, which some refer to as "direct admission."

Not every student at Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences is eligible for a 100% scholarship. Through the Pradyumna Bal Memorial Scholarship, which is given to two worthy students each year based on merit and financial need, it does, however, offer a limited number of full scholarships. While full fee waivers are uncommon and extremely competitive, KIIT also provides Poverty-cum-Merit Scholarships and other partial financial aid programs.

KIMS provides a large hospital for clinical training, state-of-the-art medical and simulation labs, and well-equipped classrooms. The hostels are clean, equipped with Wi-Fi and recreational amenities, and the library is large and up to date. The larger campus of KIIT, which has sports complexes, gyms, auditoriums, and green areas, is also advantageous to students as it offers a cosy and practical setting for living and studying.

Instead of using corporate recruitment, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences uses the conventional medical path for placements. The required internship for MBBS students pays a comparatively high INR 25,000 to INR 35,000 per month. The majority of MBBS graduates earn between INR 5.5 and INR 8 LPA as junior residents. Packages get much better with additional specialisation, such as MD or MS, and in super-specialty fields, they frequently reach INR 10–15 LPA or more.

Because of its solid clinical exposure through a sizable teaching hospital, respectable academic standing, and KIIT's well-established reputation, MBBS is the most sought-after course at KIMS. The programme provides a multidisciplinary setting, simulation labs, and contemporary infrastructure. Due to the institute's relatively easy admission through private quotas and the limited number of MBBS seats in India, demand for it is still high despite its high cost.

Indeed, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a division of KIIT, is highly regarded; it was ranked among the best private medical schools in eastern India and about 26th overall in the NIRF 2023 for medical colleges. Known for its multidisciplinary programs, KIIT is a highly regarded private deemed university, ranking 15th overall by the NIRF. But some students have voiced worries about the food quality and cleanliness of the dorms.

Because of its attached multispecialty hospital, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences is renowned for its well-structured academic programs and robust clinical exposure. It keeps up good infrastructure and faculty support, and being a part of KIIT facilitates interdisciplinary learning. The cost structure, however, may seem excessive to some students when compared to government universities, and there may be fierce competition for hands-on experience.
