Candidates are selected for BTech course at Hooghly Engineering and Technology College, on the basis of their scores in certaim national and state-level entrance exams for the Engineering domain. These include- JEE Mains and WBJEE. Candidates must appear for either of these exams followed by the counselling process to take admission in the BTech course at Hooghly Engineering and Technology College.

The primary eligibility requirement for admission to BTech LE courses at FIEM is that applicants must complete their BSc degree or Diploma in the relevant field with decent scores. Moreover, for the admission process, the institute accepts JELET scores. West Bengal Joint Entrance Lateral Engineering Test (WB JELET) is conducted annually by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) to provide eligible candidates admission into the second year (third semester) of Bachelor's Degree courses in Engineering.

To be eligible for BTech admission at the institute, candidates must have completed their higher secondary education in the Science stream. Additionally, a minimum aggregate of 45% is required. IEM Kolkata offers a total of 840 seats for the BTech course, whereas FIEM offers 666 seats. Both colleges offer BTech courses in several specialisations. The eligibility requirements and admission process at both colleges are similar, in which candidates are required to complete their Class 12 in the Science stream with decent scores. For admission, both colleges accept either JEE Mains or WBJEE scores.
