The institute offers BE and B.Tech at UG level in 5 specializations. The minimum requirement for both courses is 50% marks in 10+2. Those who are willing to apply are granted admission based on the performance in the qualifying exam. However, the final seat allotment is based on the TNEA Counselling.
Kathir College of Engineering also provides admission in ME and MBA at PG level. Interested candidates must have a Bachelor's degree to apply in any of the courses. Admission is offered based on the TANCET score and TANCA Counselling.

The total seat intake for the BTech course at IMU Chennai is 80. All these seats are offered in one specialisation i.e., Marine Engineering. To get a seat in this programme, canddiates must complete their Class 12 from the PCM stream with at least an aggregate of 60% and 50% in English at the Class 10 & 12 levels. Additionally, for the selection process, the university accepts the IMU CET exam.

To get into the B.E./B.Tech programme at Sri Venkateswara Engineering College (SVCE), candidates need to have passed their 12th standard (or equivalent) with a minimum of 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, and at least 50% in English in either 10th or 12th. Additionally, they must qualify in a Common Entrance Test (CET) approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. Medical fitness and a psychometric evaluation from a DGS-approved medical officer are also required. A valid passport is also necessary for admission.

Selection criteria at Oriental College of Technology, Bhopal for B.E/ B.Tech course are:-
Candidates need to have passed their 10+2 or equivalent with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks, including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. And, a valid score in the JEE Main entrance exam is required.

Yes, a medical certificate is compulsory to get admission into BTech courses at IMU Chennai, Indian Maritime University (IMUC). A physical fitness certificate issued by a registered medical practitioner is required to be submitted at the time of admission, when the applicant gets selected. Moreover, in the counseling process, an applicant is required to submit their medical certificates.

The application fee for BTech courses at the IMU Chennai campus and the fees for registration for the IMU CET entrance exam are the same. The application fee for different categories is mentioned below:
For BTech Programmes:
- INR 1000 for General /General-EWS/ OBC (NCL) candidates
- INR 700 for SC / ST candidates

Currently, the counselling process is going on for admission to the BTech course at IMU Chennai, which has been released. In this Chennai campus, candidates who qualify for IMU CET can register themselves for the counselling process after the release of the IMU CET list. The application form usually starts in the month of April/ May every academic year. For the academic batch of 2025, the last date to fill out the IMU CET Application form was 2 May 2025.
