Hello Vishal,
Cutoff for fire and safety branch goes up to 4500 rank in the final round of admission, but you will get most benefits of your rank when you fill up the NRI admission form rather than general admission form.

Admission to the B.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ship Building) course is through CUSAT common admission test (CAT). Eligibility:
Pass in plus two examination of the state of Kerala or any other examination accepted as equivalent thereto with a first class securing a minimum of 50% marks in mathematics as well as for mathematics as well as for mathematics, physics and chemistry put together.

I would recommend IEM-Kolkata. IEM is much better than the other universities you have mentioned. For studies as well as for placements, it's much better.

General Eligibility:
The candidates belonging from Kerala Scheduled Caste (KSC) and Kerala Scheduled Tribe (KST) need to score the minimum passing marks in the qualifying examination to be eligible for applying (except marine engineering).

The question is incomplete, because it has not been mentioned the intentions and basic reason of asking the question. Both institutions are different and so their area of education. BIT, Sindri is a very old institution, (say more than 60 years) and well known for its excellence and achievements. It's a government run institution with almost all major core branches, good faculty members with cheaper education. Whereas CUSAT is autonomous with main focus on marine, environmental science, with some marketable core branches. It is a little bit costlier too. Yes, it does accept. Not only CUSAT but also all the universities and colleges in Kerala accept KMAT score for MBA.

It has the best faculty among entire universities in Kerala but need more infrastructural development in laboratory for PG students. Placement assistance needed and need to expose college as a brand. Selection process of students is best at the moment, and need more attention towards attracting international students for the sake of increasing standards. Good staff and good quality education.
