Deakin University was first established in the year 1974 with introduction of the Deakin University Act 1974. Deakin is also known to be Victoria's fourth university and is also the first to be established in regional Victoria as well as the first university to specialize in distance education for students. Deakin University was also ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world and is the 3rd the highest ranking university in the world for Sports Science courses.
