The Annual Cultural Fest of Hindu comes to you this month from 25th-28th February. Mecca acts as a choir of various musical events, ranging from Sufi to pop and rock-n-roll, literary events, fashion shows, etc. to name a few. The past years have seen the grand success of the fest because of the participation of mind boggling number of students.

The much awaited DU Fest Season gives a platform to the passion-driven societies of various colleges to display their talent. Here's a list of the top 6 societies of DU (in no particular order):1. ABHIVYAKTI-The Dramatics Society of Indraprastha College: Abhivyakti was among the first few dramatics societies of DU. Their street play production Manmarziyaan had garnered the first position in most of the fests. They are known for tackling social issues in their own satirical and comical style which is prominent in their plays.
2. MISBA-The Western Dance Society of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce: Their unique and comical style of dance makes the audience go crazy. They leave everyone including the jury, awestruck with their amazing moves and use of props. Misbas energetic performance strikes a perfect balance between swagger and swoon. Their production was a creative fusion of hip hop and contemporary styles of dance.
3. NAZAAKAT-The Folk Dance society of Gargi College: Nazaakats production was a mixture of resonating ghungroos and vibrant costumes. Through their elaborate choreography and expressions, they portrayed the tradition of worshipping Lord Krishna.
4. LSR WMS-The Western Choir of Lady Shri Ram College: LSR WMSs winning piece was a creative and melodious one. It was a fusion of two different genres of music- jazz and R&B. Their piece was a medley of two songs, Misty by the Real Group and Jailer by Asa.
5. PIXELS- The Photography Society of Hans Raj College: Pixels is one of the most prominent societies in DU. It was the first society in DU to ever host a photography exhibition in Indian Habitat Centre. The Young Minds was a three-day photography exhibition held in February where various artists presented their marvelous and inspiring work.
6. GALORE-The Fashion Society of Maitreyi College: Galores production aimed to enlighten people on the issue of hunting and poaching of tigers. They wanted people to protect this elegant animal and help in preventing its extinction. The society takes pride in the fact that their costumes are made by the society members within the college premises.

The debating societies in DU ensure this personality enrichment and exposure in numerous ways, one of the most popular being, the outstation competitions. Participants are sent to college fests all over the country, where they get a chance to dabble in various formats of debating. Kashish Minocha, president of the English Debating Society of Sri Venkateswara College, says, Outstation events, especially in colleges of south India, are very important as each one has its own specialty. These events also act as ice-breakers for freshers, and help them foster relationships with the seniors.
Not only do the students excel at public speaking, but they are also better prepared at handling tough situations in life. It involves a lot of reading and learning. This added knowledge also helps us write exams, says Harshita Madan, member of QED, the debating society of Gargi College.
The societies also provide the comfort of close-knit friendships and familial bonding. Anubhav Chakraborty, president of the English Debating Society of Hindu College, says, these societies provide a sense of belonging, especially to outstation students, as you end up spending a lot of time together.

The Department traces its origin to the establishment of the Y.W.C.A School of Social Work in 1946 at Lucknow. It was established by the Y.W.C.A of India, Burma and Ceylon, which later became National Y.W.C.A of India. It started a one year programme to give training in social work to the women who were demobilized by the Armed Services, known as the Womens Auxillary Corps of India, following the end of World War II in 1946.
The school started under the directorship of MS. Nora Ventura who was then the Secretary of Religious Education Committee of the Y.W.C.A, with two students - one from Sindh and the other from Bengal. Later in 1946 MS. Elmina Lucke, a noted social work educationist of considerable standing and experience, took over as Consultant Organizer of the School. In 1947 the school moved to Delhi and with the efforts of the then Vice Chancellor of University of Delhi Sir Maurice Gwyer; the old Air Force Barracks located on the corner of the Mall Road and 3 - University Road was given to the School.
Due to the initiatives and efforts of MS. Lucke, post-graduate programme was started which in 1948 was affiliated to the University of Delhi and the name was changed to Delhi School of Social Work. The school was then governed by a board, which included as members in the board were representatives from the Y.W.C.A, the Ministries of Education and Health and the University of Delhi. Dorothy Moses was appointed as the First Principal of the School. She was succeeded by M.S. Gore and S.N. Ranade as Principals of Delhi School of Social Work. D.S.S.W was taken over by University of Delhi in 1962 and became a post graduate institution maintained by the university. PhD programme was started in 1965 and in 1976 M. Phil Programme was introduced. In 1979 Delhi School of Social Work (DSSW) became the Department of Social Work, University of Delhi.

Admission to the Department of Social Work is open to both men and women having completed a Bachelor's Degree programme of 3 years duration from a recognized University. The eligibility criteria for admissions to the year 2011 12 are as follows: a) Any person with a Bachelors Degree or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 year) in any discipline with minimum 55% marks from recognized university is eligible to apply. b) B.A. (H) Social Work student with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized University are eligible to apply. c) Those candidates who are appearing in the final year examination of the Bachelors degree are also eligible to apply subject to the qualification listed above. d) Candidates belonging to SC/ST shall be eligible as per Delhi University rules to pass with the minimum marks. e) PWD candidates shall be allowed 5% relaxation in the eligibility requirement. Before applying for admission, the candidate should ensure that the minimum eligibility requirements are met and that he/she has attained the age of twenty years on or before the first day of October of the year in which admission is sought. Candidates whose result for the qualifying examination is awaited may also apply provisionally. They must submit a copy of their result latest by August 31, 2012 failing which the offer of admission shall stand cancelled.

When it comes to the admission in BA History Hons, students are highly rush for getting admission in University of Delhi. Because it offers a wide range of top notch faculties with other facilities. The good colleges in Delhi University of doing BA History Hons are:

These are the some pioneers college in Delhi University for history Hons. But out of these I would like to vote for "Hindu College". Because it is ranked as the 2nd Best college (in overall ranking) in Delhi university after SRCC. This college has 100+ books in their Library especially for history students. It has fully Wi-Fi equipped campus for E-Learning. It has the beat faculties for this department and what not. So, I'd prefer for Hindu college. However its cutoff is quite high (ranges from 95%-99%). Hope this helps.

In arts, Lady Shri Ram College is the best, so I guess, English honors is the best. The faculty is better here at DU.
I have completed my honors degree from DU, and where it excels is the exposure a student gets, you will meet students from every nook of the country and cultures, try to absorb all that you can. As a literature student reading is your duty, read as much as you can, write whatever you can, push yourself, participate in extracurricular activities and that's all.
On an informal note, even English at Jadavpur University is considered best. So decide on others factors, like what after English and placements, which places suits you best.

Well, there is no age limit as such fixed as of now, as the earlier upper age bar was lifted by the Supreme Court on a PIL filed by 2 aspirants.
However, there is an upper age bar on judicial services exam, which differs from state to state for instance, in UP the upper age limit is 35 years while in Haryana it is 40 years.
And, for Delhi also it may be fixed to 32 years most probably.
So, you do not have any age limit to do LLb, but if you aim at judiciary, then you have to make sure to complete the degree within the age limits of judicial services exams of a respective state you look for.
However, you may choose to appear for Higher Judicial Services, where the age bar is available upto 45 years and, thus you get a chance to become a judge after satisfying other eligibilities.
Thus, in a nutshell, age does not really is a bar to become a judge provided you plan it accordingly, as after a maximum age you would be ineligible for any of the 2 exams.
