There are many types of courses in fashion designing field.
First is B.Des i.e., Bachelor of Designing which most of the design students wish to pursue. It is a 4-year course under the branch you choose which can be apparel, footwear, accessories, automobile, furniture, interior designing, etc.
Second is BA in fashion designing which is simply Bachelor of Arts in fashion designing. It is a 3-year course where one studies the basics of every possible branch of fashion designing.
The third is B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) in fashion designing which is a vocational course of 5 years. In this, the first three years are of graduation, whereas, the last two years are for postgraduation. It is an integrated course of Bachelor's and Master's degree. The subjects in this course are very basic and they include basic Hindi, maths and other primary subjects.
Fourth is CAD which stands for computer-aided design. In this course, most of the things you learn are related to computer applications, that is design related software, etc. The duration of this course varies in different colleges. It may be of one month or one and a half month, maybe of six months or a year.
The last course is Diploma which is a 1-2 year course. It can be done after completing class 10th.

On the basic level, interior designers design and create living and working spaces for a variety of customers, either as freelancers or as part of a design firm. Designers often specialize in a particular area such as green spaces, home design or corporate work-spaces.

Prefer IIT Bombay anytime over State School of Design, when it comes to B.Des Industrial design. If you have a credible body of specimen work done by you, as is expected of the students of top-notch design schools, you might get placed right on the Campus itself.or you might get work orders as a freelancer. Placements are good as there is a high demand for designers in the market. During my time, a lot of service companies like TCS, Infosys etc. came to campus for placement. However, the trend has changed to Product companies now. The minimum package you can expect is around 8L per annum and the maximum goes up to 24L for a fresher.

Going for the higher studies or getting a job after completing Bachelors in visual arts is totally up to you. If you want to do a government job or you are very keen to study further then you should go for higher studies. Otherwise, if you want to do private jobs only, then it's better you start early because in the industry, experience is always more valuable than a Master's degree. So, why to pay fee for another two years. It's better you earn money and add up to your experience because what you learn in the industry is totally different than what you learn in the college.
