I agree with expert advise given earlier to you on your question, however will add that, few diploma courses are offered by private colleges which are open to students of any background provided they have an aptitude for designing.

I consider that your query is about creative design(styling, futuristic concepts, new designs in addition to technology behind any automobile) when u say automobile design and not the hard core technical design(related to engine, chasis design etc).
In India institutes like National Institute of Design(NID) and Industrial Design Center(IDC),IITB offer MDes(Transportation and Automobile Design). Students who pursue this course generally work in automobile companies.
