The university started its correspondence education on 24th March 1971. It was known as “Directorate of Correspondence Programs.” In the year 1985 it was upgraded as “Directorate of Distance Education” which was further in 1993, upgraded as
IDE. In the academic year 2008-09 the “The Institute of Distance Education” is now named as IDOL.
