The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology Aurangabad, commonly known as NIELIT Aurangabad, was established in 1986 as a public or government institute. It is affiliated with Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. The Institute offers AICTE-approved courses within the premises of 18 acres. The Institute offers courses in online, full-time, and part-time mode.

Several sources suggest that NIELIT Aurangabad has a lower placement rate compared to some other engineering colleges. However,  graduates can pursue government jobs in various sectors related to electronics and information technology by appearing for competitive exams

The institute provides summer internship opportunities. The internship generally takes 6 weeks, post which a certificate is awarded to the participants. The final-year students are eligible to apply for summer internships. The students must hold a minimum of 75% attendance to be eligible for summer internships. The institute also shortlists the candidates on the basis of their performance in the mini-project conducted at the end of the course.
