The main difference between them comes in residential offerings. The West campus is organized into quadrangle residential facilities which is not the case with East Campus, that has individual houses & residential halls.
Living at East Campus is limited to only first-year students, & it does not maintain accommodation facilities for Selected Living Groups or Greek Organizations.

The Duke University is named after Washington Duke, a member of the Dukes family in Durham.
Duke was a tobacco manufacturer by profession & played a key part in the development of the institution, with his son: James Duke investing around USD 40 million from the Duke Endowment Fund in 1924, after the death of his father.
As a memorial to Washington Duke & his family's faith, the institute's then president: William Few, decided to rename the institute.
