As an ECE student one should have the basic knowledge of current, voltage and basic electronic components which helps them to debug the problems which they will face in day to day lives without the support of others. For instance, If one knows about the Fuse and voltage he/she will identify the problem by themselves whenever power goes off in their home. By checking
Whether the Fuse is present or not
By checking whether line voltage is coming or not by using tester without seeking the help of an electrician. So with these knowledge they will try to figure out the first level problem in all the electronic devices by themselves without seeking the help of any service men or an electrician in the first approach. It helps them to identify the problem. After identifying the problem if he/she calls the technician, he/she will come to know about the exact solution from the technician. By this his /her quest for knowing more about electronics will improve naturally. Secondly, if one knows about series, parallel, open closed circuit then he/she will repair the toys and small electronic gadgets by themselves if it's not working. So, I believe, this is the very basic thing one must know as an ECE student because many students does't even know this fundamental thing after completing their graduation.
