Hey Rohan,
Mechanical engg is well established in India whereas automation engg is not that much available nor in demand. It is still picking up in India. However there are universities offering automation also. Finally it depends on your interest which one you consider fine to go for. In my opinion mech will be better option as it will give you more opportunities than automation.

After pursuing engineering you either get a good placement or not , in both the cases there is a situation where you get stagnated at a certain pay grade and position.
