Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering is a 3 year polytechnic degree dealing with aircraft design, manufacturing, operation, and maintenance. It teaches technical information of the aircraft functioning and equips students with aviation related employment.

• Eligibility: After Class 10 study can include students with Science and Mathematics. Majority of the institutes need 40-50 percent marks. Entrance tests are taken in some colleges whereas most of the colleges do direct admissions based on merit.
• Course Structure:

The Diploma also consists of theoretical courses and hands-on training. Key subjects include:

• Aerodynamics
• Aircraft Structures
• Aircraft Propulsion
• Aircraft Materials
• Aviation Systems and Instruments.
• Aviation Safety and Regulations.
• Engineering Drawing and CAD
• Introduction to Electrical and Electronics.
• Workshop Practices

Students are also involved in labs and can have industry placements in aviation companies or maintenance facilities.

• Skills Gained: You study aircraft maintenance, troubleshooting, component testing, repair procedures, drafting and safety rules that are needed in the aviation employment.

• Career Opportunities: Graduates may also do work in airports, airlines, aircraft manufacturing companies, MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) facilities, defence organisations such as DRDO, HAL, ISRO (in support capacity). Common job roles include:

• Salary: The average salary received by freshers is of INR 15,000-25,000 per month and the salary may increase up to INR 30000-60000 + depending on the company and job description.

• Higher Studies: Students may undertake B.Tech Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering after the Diploma as a lateral entry (direct 2 + year). You can also take B.Tech in Mechanical, Mechatronics or do AME (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering).
