296 is a low score you may check for universities not requiring the GRE for better chances.

GRE is not required if not mentioned by the university. It is mainly required in US. If you have good academic performance, you need not take GRE even if you are applying to a top university in Australia.

Hello Shiv,
GATE entrance examination helps to get admission into government colleges in India for M.Tech. Certain jobs also demand for a valid GATE score. GATE score is also accepted by many private engineering colleges for admission into M.Tech.
GRE entrance examination helps to get admission into courses abroad. You also need to appear for TOEFL to be able to get admission into universities abroad. If you're financially good, you can opt for this option.

Hi,
You may receive if the university considers you fit in all rounded profile. It will be difficult for a top ranked university but there are many decent universities offering scholarships.
