IIIT Una is a public private college which was established in 2014. The college was set up by the collaboration of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, HP Power Corporation Limited, the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh, and HP Transmission Corporation Limited. Being the public private college, the fee for various courses is not very high. If students find the fee a little high, they can apply for scholarships provided by the college. Some of the scholarships provided by the college are Top Class Scholarships that are offered to SC Students and others.

To be eligible for the Indian Institute of Information Technology Una BTech programme, a candidate must have passed Class 12 from a recognised board or organisation with Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics as compulsory or mandatory subjects and a minimum of 75 percent aggregate.
