NITIE (National Institute of Industrial Engineering), Mumbai which was established in the year 1963 by the Govt. of India with the assistance of UNDP and ILO has now been named IIM, Mumbai. The change was made on July 12th, 2023 after the Union cabinet approved an amendment to the IIM Act, making it the second IIM (Indian Institute of Management) in Mumbai, Maharashtra alongside IIM Nagpur. The institute celebrated its Diamond Jubliee completion this year and has been ranked 7th in the Management category by NIRF.

SPJIMR has a high ranking as compared to IIM. The placement records and the placement rate of SPJIMR college are more than that of IIMs and there are a large number of companies that visit SPJIMR Institute as compared to IIMs. The highest Package offered by SPJIMR Institute is about 77.88 LPA and the average Package offered by SPJIMR is nearly 33.02 LPA.
