The ST category rank cannot be determined directly from the All India Rank (AIR) and percentile. The number of students in the ST category and their performance are considered to determine the ST category rank. The ST category rank is normally determined by taking the rank distribution of the category as a whole and the percentile estimates your position relative to other students. Since you have an AIR of 533900 and a percentile of 55.56, expect that your ST category rank would be lower than AIR but the rank depends upon how many ST candidates appear in the examination and scores they obtain. Historical data linking percentiles with ranks could be used to check your estimated rank in the JEE Main at 82. Usually, an 82 percentile gives a rank somewhere in the range of approximately 169,542 to 92,303.

Rank estimation based on percentile

Since you are at 82 percentile, then your rank will most likely fall within this range. This means you did better than about 82 out of 100 candidates taking the exam.

It is as per the normalization process used by the National Testing Agency (NTA), which in turn achieves fairness of rankings across sessions and across difficulty levels of examination.

Final Answer: Expected rank in JEE Main at 82

Candidates scoring 95 percentile in JEE Main can get multiple NITs. This percentile ranges between 60,000 and 90,000 owing to which it is qualifying for most of the NITs. You can get entrances to mid tier NITs and a few bottom some also based on branch/campus. The top NITs we know of, like NIT Trichy or NIT Warangal, would have kept your CAP I, but other prestigious places should be in the range. Always refer to the latest cutoff trends & do participate in this counseling for a better chance of admission.
