A percentage is not the same as a percentile. While a percentile score is determined by comparing the relative performance of all exam takers, a percentage is a number out of 100. The percentage of candidates who received a score in the exam that was equal to or lower than that certain percentile is shown by the percentile score.

The NTA score in JEE Mains is a normalized score, that reflects your performance relative to other test-takers in the same session. The score factors like the difficulty level of the exam and the overall distribution of marks, not just the raw marks you scored.

NTA score in JEE Mains evens out the playing field by accounting for variations in difficulty between different exam sessions. It essentially tells you what percentage of test-takers in your session scored lower than you.

Based on the information provided by you it is unlikely to get seat in NIT Hamirpur. The JEE Mains cutoff is generally higher than that of 73 percentile, even with state quota and being SC category. Therefore, it is best to look for alternative options such as applying to state university council or retaking the exam to improve your score. Sorry, I don't think you will get into NIT with these marks, you should have a percentile above 95 to get a seat in any NITs

Since you have not mentioned your category so consider it as general. You might not get the excellent colleges of your expectations but on such percentile and category, you have some chances of getting some colleges through MHT CET counseling according to the previous year's cut-off. You can try and apply to these colleges if you are genuinely interested in engineering.

1. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Institute of Technology, Shedung, Panvel

2. Dr. D. Y. Patil School OF Engineering, Lohegaon, Pune

3. Vidyavardhini's College of Engineering and Technology, Vasai
