To be accepted for doctoral (PhD) studies at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, all interested applicants must meet the general entry requirements and any special requirements outlined in the position announcement. Only students meeting these following requirements qualify as the potential PhD candidate: 

• A degree at the advanced level (master's/second cycle) or
• Fulfilled course requirements corresponding to at least 240 credits, of which a minimum of 60 credits are at the advanced level (master's/second cycle) or
• Otherwise acquired largely equivalent knowledge

Note: KTH on its own discretion may exempt an individual applicant from the general entry requirements if there is an extraordinary reason to do so.

Language Requirements

• English language proficiency equivalent to (the Swedish upper secondary school) English course B/6 is required. The requirement can be satisfied through the following internationally recognised English tests:

Eligibility for Master's Programme

1. Bachelor's degree: A bachelor's degree from a recognised university is required to pursue Master's programme at KTH. For students who are in their final year of undergraduate studies in international institutes after applying, if get qualified, receive a conditional acceptance from the institute. The students are then expected to submit their written statements to the institute. Students in any Swedish university are exempted from written statement, but they have to complete 150 ECTS credits in the bachelor's programme by February (or before the application deadline specified for their programme).
2. English proficiency: Students applyingfor master's programme should have English language proficiency equivalent to (the Swedish upper secondary school) English course B/6 is required. The requirement can be satisfied through the following internationally recognised English tests: 

KTH Royal Institute offers only one bachelor’s course in Information and Communication Technology, 180 ECTS, with English as the language of instruction and thus, to be eligible for this programme, students must meet the following generic requirements:

• Students must complete their upper secondary education with documented proficiency in English.
• They must also have documented knowledge in Mathematics and Physics, corresponding to Mathematics 4 (advanced level of mathematics) and Physics 2 (advanced level of physics). In each of the subjects, applicants must have at least a passing grade.

All applications will be evaluated individually and according to country specific requirements.

Applicants must have complete documentation from Upper Secondary School. Students in their final year of Upper Secondary School will not be provided with conditional admittance and also predicted grades will not accepted.

Yes, KTH Royal Institute of Technology offers several MOOCs (Massive open online courses), which can be completed in just a few hours - completely free of charge. These courses help in developing careers or simply help students learn something new. No prior knowledge or qualifications are required to take an online course at KTH. Yes, KTH Royal Institute of Technology does offer student exchange programs and welcomes students from around 200 exchange partner universities worldwide to study over 1,000 master's level courses in English. Each year KTH welcomes 1,000 exchange students from all over the world.

To become an exchange student at KTH, you must be enrolled at a partner university with which KTH has an exchange agreement. To qualify, you must have completed at least two years of the educational programme at your home university, preferably more, with above-average grades. Students in architecture must have three years of completed studies.

As an exchange student in all subject areas except from architecture, you make an individual course selection and create your own study plan. Exchange students within architecture have a set study plan.

KTH Royal Institute of Technology is Sweden's leading technical university, which is known for higher studies. However, it does offer one bachelor's degree programme in English, which helps in attracting talent from all over the world. This is course is a three-year programme in Information and Communication Technology. After graduation, astudents can proceed to a working career or continue studying a master's programme at KTH or any other university.

The acceptance rate for the bachelor's programme in Information and Communication Technology for 2022 was merely 7%. KTH admitted only 50 students out of the 730 applicants, who met the admission requirements.
