Lateral entry into B.E./B.Tech is based on your Diploma aggregate. There is not separate entrance Test for lateral entry into engineering colleges in Maharashtra. Some colleges may conduct their own entrance test. But maximum colleges follow the procedure set by Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) Maharashtra. For admissions into direct 2nd year engineering every year CAP (Common Admission Process) rounds are held by DTE. You have to register on DTE's Official Website. If a student is looking for admission into a course of Master of Science M.Sc in one year must have passed the undergraduate degree conducted by a recognized university, or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto, as per the standard/eligibility criteria laid down by the Institute/University.

You can change to Colleges which come under the affiliation of your university. However, if you wish to change your university as well, then you will have to start from the 1st year. But, so is not the case when you change college within the same University, then you can continue from where you left.

The seats for lateral admission can be taken as 10% of the normal intake of first year. However this is only a rough figure. The university will normally announce seats availability at the start of admission process. What I can advise you is that try to score as much marks in diploma to ensure admission.
