As far I know, in some colleges, it is allowed that student from other branches ,other than CSE can pursue his MTech in CSE but under some conditions. You have to write your GATE paper in CSE. Directly, other branches are not admitted as MTech is a research field and without knowledge. Colleges won't admit any non-BTech CSE into CSE in MTech.

Whereas, GATE score represents a candidates performance in comparison to all the candidates appeared in GATE exam since 2007. GATE score and percentile change with the standard of GATE paper. I can only say that a job is not a bad choice too. But if you really want to go forward with your education and you really have that learning spark towards any field then you should pursue that first. If you really want to learn about things in a particular field then go ahead for that. Here, I can say that go ahead with M.Tech plan. A job is a thing which you can do after PG too.

GATE percentile represents a candidates performance compared to all the candidates appeared in that same paper in the same year. Whereas, GATE score represents a candidates performance in comparison to all the candidates appeared in GATE exam since 2007.

Jadavpur University is one of the best government colleges among the top 10 colleges in India rank by MHRD, so it takes admission only through GATE exams marks. After scoring good marks in GATE you can apply for M.E./M.Tech/M.Pharm/M.Arch courses online through official website as per schedule. You have to submit a separate application form for separate courses. All the best
