Yes, it is possible for you to pursue M.Tech in different branch. Although, it may vary for different universities but most of the universities allows you to pursue Masters in any specialization of your choice. Not necessary, you must have the profile to get into the likes of Stanford. Ofcourse IIT, BIT etc are institutes of repute and preferred, having said that if an applicant from one of the top institutes lacks in quality profile he or she will have a tough time during admissions.
