Mechanical engineering graduates after completion of B.Tech can undergo 1-year duration Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course to enter into merchant navy as marine engineer. This course is offered by lot of institutes approved by the Directorate General of Shipping.

The Common Entrance Test (CET) of Indian Maritime University is the best entrance examination to join marine engineering degree courses.

Both, ECE and marine engineering are good career option in the field of engineering with good scope and opportunities. Marine engineering is a sector specific branch of engineering with better salaries, but challenges in work life balancing.
