It depends where your interest lies. If you want to join the state administration at the sub-divisional level, as a sub-divisional magistrate, and look after law and order, general administration and development work in the area under your charge, you should opt for a career as an IAS. Journalism, on the other hand, is a different sector. If you fancy reporting news, editing, videography, news anchoring and such, Journalism is the right field for you. Also, you can pursue both because IAS is a highly competitive exam. The chances of cracking the exam cannot be speculated at all. You also need to be a graduate to be eligible to apply for Indian administrative services. You can opt for Journalism as your UG course and prepare for IAS alongside.

Eligibility criteria for taking admission in M.A. (Journalism & Mass Communication) in most of the top universities is Pass with 50% aggregate marks in Bachelor's Degree.
