You must apply through NDA (National Defence Academy) or and Indian Naval Academy exams. However, you must be a 12th (science) student with physics and mathematics. Additionally, you must meet the medical standards.
Kindly, check the Indian Naval Academy website for more details.

It is up to the student to decide in which field he/she would like to research on. You must complete your Bachelors, Masters and also do Ph.D., preferably for RnD work. The area of study would be your choice on the basis of your interest and career plans.
