Analyse your strong as well as weak suits in the respective areas - quant, verbal, logical reasoning, data interpretation. Start with the preparation of your weak areas and focus on making them your strong areas.
Begin with the solved examples in the book
Then move onto the unsolved examples
Finally, resort to previous year's CAT papers and monitor your progress.
Thereafter, practice and practice and practice more.
2. Be thorough with your fundamentals:
During the last few days before the exam, the candidates should revise all the basic concepts. Revisions of the fundamentals of each topic are extremely crucial to secure a good score. It will enable you to consolidate your preparation for the exam. You should be confident and well-versed with the application of all your basic concepts.
3. Get well-versed with the paper pattern.
4. Acquaint yourself with some other relevant changes.

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) is conducted every year by XLRI, Jamshedpur.
As per the exam pattern of XAT 2018, it will be an online paper-based test of 3.5 hours duration. The exam is divided into two parts.
Paper 1 consists of three sections carrying around 70 objective type multiple choice questions.
Paper 2 carries two sections which are a mix of objective and subjective type of questions.
The exam shall consist of the following sections:
Paper 1:
1)Quantitative Ability
2)English Language & Logical Reasoning
3)Decision Making
Paper 2:
4)GK
5)Essay
Each question will carry one mark and for each wrong answer, there will be negative marking of 0.25 marks.
There is no specific XAT syllabus released by XLRI Jamshedpur, XAT sample papers and previous year papers will give a broad idea about the exam about preparation.

6 months is a decent period of time to crack CAT.

Maths:
Students from non-engineering backgrounds are not too comfortable in QA. If you are not an engineering student then you must focus in this section to improve your score, which will impact overall MAT percentile.
The most important topics being - Logarithm, Algebra, Geometry, Permutation and Combination and Probability.
LR/DI:
Again a section where high-scoring can be done as this is comparatively easier than the others. You should focus on Data Sufficiency, Bar Graph, Tables, Case-lets and Pi-charts.
Verbal and Reading Comprehension:
You need to be proficient in words to crack this section. Learn 5-10 words every day. Focus on fill in the blanks, grammar, para completion, para jumble, word usage and verbal reasoning.
Usually, there is no GK in CAT.
To crack CAT, you need utter dedication and you should be very hard working or a genius in mathematics and reasoning.

I would add to the previous answer Career Launcher/TIME are the most dignified coaching institutions when it comes to CAT/ CMAT/GMAT. Since TIME is more in number in Maharashtra, you can take an admission in it.
TIME offers two types of course method:
It is basically full course or a crash course or both.
When there is a comparison done between both, it seems that TIME does not follow any fixed curriculum. Whereas, Career Launcher has its books published.
Either way, both have a strong study material.
Both institutions have flexibility in their timings but Career Launcher seems to have a personal touch.
The lectures usually are conducted on weekends in both the institutions.
If you want to have my personal suggestion then I would choose Career Launcher it is more pocket-friendly and will give you great attention.

IBSAT is an online management aptitude test which is conducted by The ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education. The test scores are used for the intake of MBA and PhD programs of ICFAI Business School, The campuses that consider these scores are Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Dehradun, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune.
Each section except Verbal Ability has 30 questions. The Verbal Ability section has 50 questions
Verbal ability section in IBSAT exam basically tests students written language abilities. - The first step to follow is IBSAT previous years question papers in order to understand the structure of the exam. You may also try solving them within the 120 minutes and examine the answers after completing the paper.
- Make sure to check the speed while solving the questions. Time management plays a very critical role as the candidates will get more than a minute for each question. To improve this part, solve sample papers and try mock tests.
- Since IBS is a Computer Based test, the candidates are recommended to appear for as many mock tests as possible. The online mock test will offer a similar atmosphere as that of the exam.
- Do not lose confidence and do not get anxious in the exam or solving the sample papers. Go through the questions cautiously and try to comprehend them and then solve them.
- Try reading newspapers, magazines, novels, books, journals, etc. for a better hold over vocabulary.
